Turkey-Syria Appeal

The people of Syria and southern Turkey need your help. And they need it right now.

More than 16,000 men, women and children have already perished following the devastating earthquakes which hit both countries this week.

And time is running out for thousands more who have been seriously injured.
In the middle of an already harsh winter, vulnerable children and families have been shaken to their core. Families made homeless in the disaster zones are spending nights in the freezing cold, or sleeping in their cars as overwhelmed rescuers race frantically against the clock to pull people from the rubble.

Many are fearful of going back into buildings shaken by the 7.8 magnitude tremor that hit in the early hours of Monday.

Rescuers in Turkey and Syria are warning that the death toll will keep rising with some survivors saying help has yet to arrive.

The news is devastating. But the Irish Emergency Alliance members’ teams - ActionAid, Christian Aid, Plan International, Tearfund, Trócaire, World Vision - and local partners are on the ground, responding right now with staff and partners at the coalface in this unfolding emergency.

Working together, we are supporting our international teams as they provide prompt support and emergency supplies including food, water, blankets, hygiene kits and shelter.

With people left without shelter in freezing winter conditions, humanitarian needs are expected to grow in the coming days. Access to clean water will likely be a challenge, bringing the risk of cholera and other diseases.

Immediate priorities are medical treatment for the injured, shelter for those who have lost their homes, heaters for safe spaces and winter kits with blankets, and warm clothes, and ensuring people have food and clean water.

Thanks to the generosity of caring people like you, we will provide vital hygiene kits to help as many desperate families as possible stay healthy.

You can help a devastated family survive and rebuild right now.
